The exhibition also included a history of the temporary use of the site since 1918, a conversation between Hans Ulrich Obrist and Cedric Price as well as a video lecture by Rem Koolhaas. Another group of proposals avoided any reference to previous history. A majority of the proposals addresses the specific history of the site as either a Palast (East Germany), Imperial Castle or as a hybrid Palast-Castle. 16 international teams were invited and their proposals were exhibited and documented in the Palast der Republik.
